On 30 March 2024 Pomona – Heritage gardens invited people of Zarasai region and its guests to a half-day practical training on the restauration of neglected gardens and fruit trees. The seminar was delivered by Gražvydas Jegelevičius, the founder of the Institute for Ecological Agriculture and probably the best specialist in this field in Lithuania.
During the seminar, which was attended by nearly 20 women and men from the region and beyond, the participants acquired or refreshed their knowledge related to the maintenance of fruit trees, polished their practical skills, and contributed to the rejuvenation of the old gardens of Zarasai.
Aurelija Trimonytė, the vice-mayor of Zarasai, commented on the usefulness of the event:‘People are asking: when will we do it again? – which is a genuine proof of its success‘.“.
Encouraged by the interest and positive feedback, we are currently working on a full training course on gardens and fruit trees covering the grafting, maintaining and shaping young trees, pruning and restoring old and neglected trees, and designing and setting up new orchards.
