As part of our Programme of practical trainings on the establishment, maintenance, and use of orchards, we recently organized two successful training events that delved into the fascinating world of old fruit varieties.<\/p>\n<p>On September 28 and 29, our team of experts &#8211; Professor Rimvydas Lau\u017eikas and Gra\u017evydas Jegelevi\u010dius &#8211; led 23 and 17 enthusiastic participants, respectively, on a journey of discovery through lectures in Salakas and Dusetos, and excursions in the historical gardens of the \u2018father\u2019 of Lithuanian pomology Adomas Hrebnickis in Rojus (village in Ignalina district, which translates as \u2018Heaven\u2019 in English). We explored the characteristics of traditional apple and pear varieties, learning about their unique qualities, growth specificities, and uses.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>I was amazed by the diversity of old fruit varieties and their potential for use in cooking, preserving, and even cosmetics<\/em>,&#8221; shared participant, Karolina. &#8220;<em>The training has inspired me to plant traditional fruit varieties in my own orchard and share these treasures with my friends and whole community<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Our trainings covered the identification of old fruit varieties, the various methods of using their fruits, and related business opportunities. From traditional recipes to innovative products, we explored the many ways these heritage fruits can enrich our lives.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>The training was incredibly informative and engaging<\/em>,&#8221; says K\u0119stutis, who came to the event from Vilnius. &#8220;<em>I\u2019m pleased to see that so many enthusiasts, full of desire to pass on our amazing pomological heritage for future generations.<\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The success of these events feeds our continuous interest in conserving old fruit varieties, restoring heritage gardens and establishing new conservative orchards.
